Breaking down the Governor candidates – Nikki Haley
Nikki Haley entered the Governor’s race with one critical ace up her sleeve. Governor Mark Sanford’s endorsement and support.
While she’s still in the race, the Mark Sanford connection doesn’t seem as appealing to her as it once did. She’s now even trying to put some distance between herself and the love-struck Gov.
Because she no longer has such high-powered support she’s not nearly as likely to energize a Republican base as she initially thought she might.
There is also the fact that she voted to accept the stimulus money, which will further alienate her from some groups.
There’s one other very important reason.
While I have no qualms about voting for a female if they are indeed qualified for the position for which they are running, I simply do not believe that the conservatives of South Carolina will feel the same way. South Carolina is the only state in the nation that does not have a female in the state senate. While some others bring her skin color, religion and race into it, my opinion is the single biggest reason she will not get the votes is the fact that she is a woman running for the highest statewide elected office in South Carolina.
