Breaking down the Lt Gov candidates – Tim Scott

Posted in Lieutenant Governor at 2:18 pm by scelections

Tim Scott, with the annointment from Governor Mark Sanford and the pile of cash he raised from Sanford supporters, won his state district 117 seat with 53% of the vote. He raised approximately 14 times the amount of cash as his opponents with the Gov’s machine helping.

A statewide race for Tim will be a much different story.

Tim appears to be running a race on the diversity issue as most of his comments come from that direction. While appealing to a number of voters in Charleston and Berkeley counties, (only 53%) that’s not a flag that the chrisitian conservative base statewide would like to see raised.

The attacks have now started claiming he’s gay. We’ll see how that turns out.

Regardless of his sexual identity, a one-year stepladder to statewide office seems to be a bit of overreaching from this viewpoint. His connection to Governor Mark Sanford could be a link that hurts him critically. Scott’s donations looks like a who’s who list of Charleston Sanford supporters.
